           WHAT OTHERS HAVE BEEN SAYING

Allen with David Miliband

‘ Well I think that Allen has set out a very important agenda. He set out an important agenda for the Island, he set out an important agenda for the Marine Protected Area, the waters around it, and he also set out an agenda for the Chagos Islanders here who needs to have their voice properly heard, I think that’s a pretty good  way of going forward.' David Miliband MP(former Foreign Secretary)

' You have my full support'
said Henry Smith MP (Crawley Member of Parliament)

' I fully support the efforts and courageous work Allen Vinctassin has done for his fellow brethren and community of Diego Garcia, who were evicted from their homes in 1971. Moreover, I support and respect all the work he and others have carried out in resettling the people of Diego Garcia in the UK, through acknowledging and implementing their rights as Diego Garcians and as individuals in UK.
In all blessing,I furthemore support the work he will be doing in the future for Diego Garcian. May the Lord God keep him and His people always.'

That this House notes the disappointment caused by the House of Lords' decision for the people forced to leave Diego Garcia and the Chagos Islands four decades ago; further notes that Mr Allen Vincatassin, Leader of the Diego Garcian Association in Crawley, has campaigned tirelessly for six people to visit Diego Garcia for one week; further notes his success has seen that visit begin on 15th November 2008; understands that the visit will allow for the collection of artefacts, the study of native flora and fauna and the placing of a plaque to commemorate this important visit; further notes that it will provide a valuable learning experience and knowledge of the cultural heritage for the many young people who are descendants of those originally born on the islands; accepts that this may not be the total solution but that it goes a long way to satisfy the Diego Garcians' pride in their heritage; congratulates the Foreign and Commonwealth Office for making this visit possible; and wishes the group well for an enjoyable visit and safe return.
